What to Expect with KDC Kitchen & Bath Gallery: The Design Process

At KDC, one of our most important values is providing a design that is both professional and personal. For many in this industry, remodeling can feel like simply filling walls with cabinets or laying tile in a shower. We believe it should be much more. A kitchen or bath remodel is not just another project—it is an investment in your home and lifestyle. It deserves to be special, intentional, beautifully designed, and tailored to you.

Free 1hr Consultation

Our process begins with a consultation in one of our showrooms. With dozens of displays featuring kitchens, vanities, sample doors, finishes, countertops, and flooring, we’ll quickly get a sense of the styles and materials that inspire you. Together, we’ll discuss the overall character, texture, and mood of your new kitchen or bath, and how those elements will complement your home.

This first step allows us to establish a design theme and direction while also beginning to set expectations. Even if you don’t yet have a clear budget in mind, we’ll help define parameters to guide our work. Our goal is always to create the most thoughtful and beautiful design possible—at the best value.

As a design-build firm, we don’t bid projects. Instead, we partner with you to design, select, and manage every aspect of your remodel. From cabinetry and flooring to fixtures, lighting, and appliances, we handle the details and coordinate every step—so your project is completed smoothly, on time, and on budget.

While this full-service model may sound more expensive, it is actually a tremendous value. In our 32+ years of experience, we’ve found that organization is efficiency. By finalizing design details and material selections up front, we minimize surprises, reduce stress, and eliminate costly delays. You’ll have peace of mind knowing that every decision has been made before construction begins.

Design fees vary depending on the size and scope of your project.

Designing a kitchen or bath requires expertise in space planning, appliance clearances, code requirements, and lighting design, as well as artistic skill and architectural sensitivity. Our designers bring years of experience and a keen eye for proportion, balance, and detail. Whether through the shape of a cabinet door or the use of linear lines in a modern design, our team ensures that every space is not just functional—but architecturally beautiful.

2

In-Home Assessment

We visit your home to understand your lifestyle, measure your space, and evaluate functionality.

We’ll also study the architectural style of your home and suggest colors, finishes, and layouts that fit seamlessly. Once we’ve established a direction, we’ll take detailed measurements, review your electrical panel, and verify all building code requirements to ensure we have a complete and accurate foundation for the project.

3

Design Development

Using advanced architectural design software, we’ll create a digital model of your project. This allows us to explore layouts, proportions, and elevations to ensure every element works in harmony. Storage needs, functionality, and flow are carefully considered—down to the placement of silverware drawers, spice racks, and appliances.

We often prepare several versions before finalizing a plan. Once the layout is complete, we’ll help you visualize your space with accessories, textures, and finishes. Cabinetry, flooring, counters, backsplash, and fixtures are carefully curated into a cohesive palette that feels both timeless and tailored to your style.

Lighting and electrical planning is also a critical step. We’ll ensure tasks are well-lit, outlets are conveniently placed, and hidden storage solutions for small appliances or bathroom essentials are integrated. These thoughtful details make your space not just beautiful, but a joy to use.

4

Presentation

At your next visit, we’ll share:

  • Detailed drawings including floor plans, elevations, and electrical layouts.

  • 3D renderings that allow you to “walk through” the space and see it as if it were already built.

  • Material selections for cabinetry, flooring, counters, backsplash, sinks, appliances, and fixtures—along with alternatives to compare.

  • A complete budget and construction contract that outlines every aspect of the remodel.

This presentation ensures you have a clear picture of the finished project, the decisions made, and the path forward.

Your satisfaction is our priority. If you’d like adjustments after the presentation, we’re happy to refine the design until it reflects your vision perfectly. This is a collaborative process, and we’ll revise drawings and budgets as needed until you feel confident moving forward.

5

Material Selection

Once your cabinets are ordered, we can accompany you to suppliers to finalize selections such as countertops, fixtures, appliances, and paint colors. Some clients prefer to handle this step independently, while others rely on our expertise—we’re flexible based on your preferences.

Finalizing these decisions early ensures that when your remodel begins, every product is ready to go. This thoughtful preparation allows construction to proceed smoothly, with no delays or last-minute scrambling.
